I have spent much of my life studying the Roman liturgy—its history, its theology, and the remarkable way in which it developed across the centuries. Again and again, the same questions arise: Why do we do this? What does this prayer mean? Where did this ritual come from? And, perhaps most importantly, what does it tell us about what the Church believes is actually taking place at Mass? That is what this course explores. My goal is not simply to explain the parts of the Mass, but to help you see how they fit together—how Scripture, theology, history, ritual, sacred music, and centuries of Catholic tradition have shaped the Roman Mass we have inherited. I hope that understanding it more deeply will help you experience the Mass with greater attention, appreciation, and love.
